Our mission is to prevent these accidents.
We are developing a compact sensor that scans the road ahead and warns the driver before the vehicle reaches a hazardous icy surface.
The technology could also provide advanced driver-assistance and autonomous-driving systems with vital information about changing road conditions.
How it works
The sensor directs near-infrared laser light onto the road and analyzes the reflected light using differential laser spectroscopy. Ice, water, and dry pavement produce different optical signatures, allowing the system to identify potentially icy surfaces ahead of the vehicle. Learn more on our technology page.
